Want to give or receive this as a gift? Click here
Next Start date: 15th March
Level: Absolute Beginner
A Guarantee that in the 4 weeks of the course you will be a confident beginner sewist ready to sew your own beginner friendly clothes (for instance, any bold one pattern is beginner!).
Want to sew but don’t know where to start? Feeling overwhelmed?
Go from second-guessing what machine or fabric to buy, to a confident beginner ready to sew your wardrobe or any Bold One pattern.
If you’re here, you’re likely looking for a confidence boost and some guidance. That’s why we’ll be working with homeware like linen placemats and pillowcases - perfect projects to make you say for learning the basics and saying 'Yea! I made that!’ before diving into clothes. See the modules below on what we will cover.
What you need:
All the tools you need will be explained in detail during Week 1, so there’s no pressure to buy anything beforehand. The main items are a sewing machine (I suggest borrowing if you can!), 2 metres of fabric, and a few small sewing tools from your local store. I’ll be sharing guidance on all of these items in the course.
What you will learn
A new module is released each week from the start date to keep you moving, but you’ll also have lifetime access to go at your own pace. Along the way you’ll get quick wins that build confidence, and instead of just practicing on scraps, you’ll make 3 cute linen homeware projects, pieces you’d normally see in stores for $60+. By the end of the course, you’ll not only have learned the skills, you’ll have saved money and created something gorgeous for your home or gifts.
- Getting Started: How to choose your sewing machine, essential tools & threading your machine.
- Fabric Fundamentals: Where to buy fabric, understanding fabric, prepping fabric so your sewing looks better, practicing sewing on paper.
- Techniques: Practice essential stitches & finishes that make your sewing look professional + hacks to help sewing easy
- Patterns Made Simple: How to measure yourself, print & assemble a PDF pattern, cut out your fabric, and understand pattern markings. Setting yourself up to sew beyond this course with PDF patterns from different companies and The Bold One.
- Guided Projects: Sew your soft furnishing projects, building confidence with each piece and a linen collection. Cushion cover, frill placemat, mitred edge napkin.
FAQs
FAQs:
Q: I’ve never sewn before. Is this for me?
A: Yes! This course is designed for complete beginners… no experience needed.
Q: Will there be a sewing community I can access?
A: With monthly intakes, you’ll be learning alongside other beginners in a private sewing group where you will be prompted to share progress, ask questions, and celebrate your wins together.
Q: Do I need an expensive machine?
A: Nope! A simple, basic sewing machine is all you need. We’ll cover this in Week 1, so you don’t have to buy anything before starting. I will create a guide of the costs of tools / fabric before pre sale goes live so you know.
Q: What if I fall behind?
A: No worries. You’ll have lifetime access, so you can revisit the lessons anytime. There is a new module that drops each week to help build the momentum for you (or take it at your own pace…). The private FB group opens immediately after you join.
The Sew Club course is fantastic! My sewing experience is quilting and very little in garment sewing. Freedom's teaching is top notch. Each lesson is thorough and easy to understand. You will learn about your sewing machine, essential tools, fabric (grainline, cross grain & bias - game changer for me!), printing and cutting patterns and then sewing a cushion cover, placement and napkins will build your confidence. This course is worth every penny!
I can't wait to get my fabric to make the Rossi and Fredy wrap dress! Happy Sewing:)
What can I say?!? Freedom is amazing! Always contactable, always chipper and such a great vibe when following along to her videos. The course has been amazing with easy to follow step my step instructions. I had previously made an apron but learnt soooo much doing this course. I have been able to carve out a little me time and watch TBO’s beginner course and sew along. It’s been so rewarding and a great little brain brake from the everyday life.
